| Awilo Longomba, a leading solo
artist in Congolese music, is touring the USA
during April 2005, bringing his band to New York, Washington D.C., Boston, Dallas
and Houston. On Friday, April 1, 2005 Awilo performed at New York's Satalla
world music venue. The band
played two sets to a packed crowd that had come to Satalla to enjoy
an evening of live Congolese music. Awilo Longomba brought a
top-notch group of musicians that included, among others, guitarist Caen
Madoka, singer Omba and drummer Simolo. Two female dancers livened up the stage during the sebenes.
The band performed many of Awilo's hits including the latest, "Karolina"
from his album "Mondongo" which we highly recommend. Bassist
Ngouma Lokito,
co-founder of the Soukous Stars, also made a guest appearance and played
bass with the band on the song "Coupe Bibamba". Awilo and his
group thrilled the crowd
and had them requesting that he return to New York again soon. |
